MARYVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 9, 2013--
Ruby Tuesday’s mission is to become America’s favorite restaurant by
delivering friendly and attentive service and consistently great food in
a vibrant and exciting atmosphere. Each team member is an indispensable
part of that mission. With more than 34,000 loyal team members who are
dedicated to serving customers throughout the country, Ruby Tuesday
strives to ensure that all those who apply for employment with the
company are treated with dignity and respect. In addition, team members
are selected and trained to meet high standards while management is
dedicated to helping each team member achieve his or her full potential.
In this spirit, Ruby Tuesday has agreed to resolve a lawsuit involving
three open restaurants and three closed restaurants in Ohio and
Pennsylvania. The lawsuit, filed by the EEOC in 2009, primarily alleged
that older workers were discriminated against during the hiring process.
Ruby Tuesday has always strongly denied, and continues to strongly deny,
this allegation. However, the company has decided to settle the lawsuit
without conceding liability to reduce the disruption to daily business
and avoid the cost of protracted litigation.
Guided by its Respect and Responsibility policy, Ruby Tuesday
aims to treat all individuals with dignity and respect. Chairman,
President and CEO, JJ Buettgen commented, "Ruby Tuesday is committed to
quality operations and to providing opportunities and training that will
allow team members to advance and develop to their full potential. Our
team members are our most valuable asset as they are the ones who bring
our plans to life everyday in our restaurants."
